25 Non-Toy Gifts for Kids Of Every Age

This year I am determined to give gifts that are not just toys! If you’re a parent then i’m sure you can relate to the all-too-familiar situation of your little ones opening a mountain of gifts on Christmas morning only to use them for a week and lose all of the little pieces. As my children have gotten older, I’ve realized how keeping toys to a minimum helps to create a stress-free environment conducive to creative play and learning.

In my experience, over-gifting can cause children to feel overwhelmed and ungrateful. There is an idea that for Christmas we should get our children something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read. Implementing this idea helps to cut down on clutter and unused toys, and essentially makes the holidays less focused on the quantity of gifts given.

This list is full of non-toy gifts that kids of every age will love and actually use! In addition to the 25 gifts listed below, you can give “experiences” as an alternative to a physical gift. Some examples of these include tickets to a concert or sporting event, music or art classes, and surprise vacations or overnight trips. Read below for more awesome non-toy gift ideas!

I agree that too many gifts can be overwhelming to kids. We cut back drastically a couple of years ago and the kids are just as happy with the way we celebrate now. I love the idea of rain boots and an umbrella for my daughter. Super Cute!
