DIY Non-Toxic Glass Cleaner

I honestly cannot remember the last time I bought Windex.  I stopped using it about two years ago when I learned about all the harmful ingredients it contains.  A few of these toxic substance include ammonium hydroxide, ethanolamine, and propylene glycol. Ammonium hydroxide can cause severe irritation to the skin and eyes as well as respiratory problems when inhaled. Ethanolamine has been shown to cause liver and kidney damage when inhaled. Propylene glycol is an ingredient that can also be found in antifreeze.  It can cause liver, kidney, and brain problems with long-term exposure. Any cleaning product containing ingredients like this is not one that I want to be using in my home.

Homemade glass cleaner is so easy to mix up that I have no excuse not to use it. I have found it to be just as effective as the store bought version, without all the harmful chemicals. In addition, it is very budget friendly! Gallon size containers of white vinegar can be purchased cheaply at most local grocery stores for right around $3. I buy all my essential oils from Mountain Rose Herbs and they are very reasonably priced. The oils you buy will last a long time because this recipe only calls for a small amount per batch.

This recipe is very similar to my All-Purpose Cleaner with the exception of a few ingredients. I left out the castille soap because I found that it leaves streaks on glass and mirrors. There is also no basil in this recipe. This cleaner simply contains vinegar, essential oils, and water. To use this cleaner, just spray onto glass or windows and wipe with a paper towel or cloth until dry.

These are my favorite glass spray bottles that I use for all my homemade cleaning products. I love these glass bottles because they are very durable. Glass is actually preferred when using products with essential oils because certain oils can cause plastic to break down. Try out this All-Purpose Cleaner if you are looking for something to clean every other surface in your home!
