Favorite Things Friday: Shopping Local Businesses

November Edition

Here at These Lovely Acres we believe in the importance of supporting local businessesWe are so excited to be highlighting some of our favorite Michigan based companies in this edition of Favorite Things Friday.

Why Is Shopping Local Important To Us?

Shopping locally helps to boost the area’s economy and promote growth within the community. Small businesses offer more personalized and unique products and services than those at large chain stores.  Most owners take immense pride and put a lot of time and energy into the product they are creating.  It is so wonderful to see small, personally owned companies grow and be successful. Support from members of the community is a vital aspect to growing a small business.

We feel a strong personal connection to the small business community. If you have been following us over the past few months you know that our brother and his wife own a company called Grandma’s Lavender. Also, Hannah’s husband and our father will be starting a market garden next spring. You can read more about this exciting adventure here.

The companies we are featuring in this post make and sell amazing products.  They each have great websites and/or Etsy shops for convenient online shopping.  Christmas will be here before we know it and all of these items would make wonderful gifts. Head on over to their websites to start shopping now!

A. Rose Designs

Alison from A. Rose Designs makes beautiful, hand painted wood signs.  She originally began painting signs in order to find a creative outlet as a mother of two young children. Her passion for painting has transitioned into a successful side business. The “gather” sign pictured below is the perfect decoration for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons and is currently available on her Etsy shop.

Alison specializes in creating custom designs and will work with you to make your sign exactly as you envisioned.  Each sign is carefully hand painted and completely unique. She has a selection of pre-made signs to choose from as well.  Her signs have been used weddings and photo shoots and are perfect for decorating in the home.  Not only is Alison talented but she is also generous! A donation of 10% of each order is given to a Michigan based ministry that supports victims of human trafficking.

Visit her Etsy shop and see all of the gorgeous sign options she has to offer.

Grandma’s Lavender

Grandma’s Lavender is a family owned business that makes natural skin and health care products that are free from harmful chemicals . Our mother began creating these products six years ago when her first grandchild (Becca’s son Cooper) was born.  Becca wanted to use gentle and natural skin care products for him but even the organic products she found contained harmful chemicals.  So our mother began formulating recipes for body butter, diaper cream, and baby wash that were safe to use on sensitive baby skin. She started Grandma’s Lavender and began selling her products in 2014.  The company is now owned and operated by our brother and his wife.

Grandma’s Lavender products are made with pure and simple ingredients and are free of toxins and harsh chemicals. You won’t find any synthetic or artificial ingredients in these products!  Each item contains real lavender and smells absolutely amazing. All of the lavender used in the products is organically grown by our father right here in Michigan.

Use the promo code “ACRES” to receive 5% off of your total Grandma’s Lavender purchase.

Go to their website or Etsy shop to browse all of their great products.

Fortress Coffee

Thomas and Margaret Hess are the husband and wife duo behind Fortress Coffee.  Their love for specialty coffee inspired them to create this awesome company. They specialize in roasting whole coffee beans in small batches.  Each batch of coffee is made to order and they even mark the bag with the date so you know exactly how fresh your coffee is. There is a wide variety of blends and origins to choose for every kind of coffee lover. Our personal favorite is the Strong Tower medium roast.

One thing we love about their company is that they offer information about where the coffee beans were sourced. It is so cool to drink a cup of coffee and be able to know the story behind it. Origin information for each blend can be found on their website.

Order your freshly roasted coffee beans from their easy to use website today!

Christina is the owner of DeBella and began the company six years ago. She started out making jewelry just for herself but quickly branched out into creating pieces for others as well. Debella is a fun, adorable shop that offers a wide range of items including necklaces, bracelets, quote prints, and wall decor.  All of these items are hand made and would make great gifts. This bracelet is one of our favorite pieces.

Christina’s mission statement is “Live Beautiful” and she strives to share that mission by bringing hope, joy, and beauty to the world around her.  She frequently coordinates fundraisers to help those in need including prospective adoptive parents, missionaries, and victims of natural disasters.

Christina has graciously offered a promotion to all of These Lovely Acres readers. Use the code “TLA15″to receive 15% off your order. This code is good through the end of November.
